The Navarro Council of the Arts is gearing up for the 10th Annual
Youth Art Show. This years art show entitled, “A
View of Navarro County”, is sure to be a hit!
One of the most famous works by El Greco is his landscape titled “View
of Toledo.” In it, he shows what his own view of Toledo, Spain
is, in a fairly realistic way but also in a symbolic way through
his use of color, style, and in taking a few liberties with the
layout of the city.
He paints both the architecture and the landscape of the city.
You can see that he had positive feelings about some aspects of
the
city and its people and yet felt extremely negative about specific
parts of the city at the same time. This year’s student art
contest theme draws its inspiration from El Greco and his “View
of Toledo.”
Student’s quest is to show people your own “View
of Navarro County.” This maybe a drawing or a painting of
a specific building or a general landscape from the county or even
display
something about its inhabitant in some way. Students may take photographs
or create a sculpture. The artwork may portray something from any
town or the outlying areas of the towns that make up the county
and its residents. Students may use a realistic style or even an abstract style.
They may show things of which one is proud or the things one wishes
could
change about this county. This may even show Navarro county from
the past or even the future. No matter what, though, creativity
in showing the aspect of Navarro County that you want to portray
is most important.
This event is open to all Navarro County students Pre k – 12th
grades. Categories are divided by grade levels, Elementary, Middle
School and High School. Savings bonds are given to 1st, 2nd and
3rd place winners.
